Beit Am Jewish Community Center receives $51,250 boost from Pacific Power Blue Sky
Grant for solar installations at community center will help save money, reduce carbon footprint

CORVALLIS, Ore.--The Beit Am Jewish Community Center will tap into solar energy by the end of the year thanks in part to funding from Pacific Power customers who voluntarily participate in the Blue Sky renewable energy program.

"Our Blue Sky customers put their dollars to work in their communities," said Celeste Krueger, Pacific Power's regional business manager for Corvallis. "Not only will these facilities supply renewable energy, but they are helping increase the visibility and adoption of renewable technology. We are proud to be part of this important partnership with communities and our Blue Sky customers."

The Corvallis project is part of up to $1.1 million in new renewable energy investment in 2018, bringing more than 675 kilowatts of new renewable energy capacity online. Since 2006, Pacific Power Blue Sky customers have helped fund the installation of 101 community-based projects totaling 8.8 megawatts of renewable energy generation capacity, demonstrating the viability of renewable energy in their communities with more than $10 million in investment during that time.

The Beit Am project will go atop a new building funded by donations. The 23.8 kilowatt project will save energy costs that instead can be applied to enable Beit Am to increase financial support for many community projects such as Stone Soup meals for low-income community members; regular drives for clothing, food, and supplies for the nonprofits Community Outreach, Inc. and Welcoming Immigrants to Oregon; monthly Jewish services at the Oregon State Penitentiary and Oregon State Correctional Institution; and staffing the Corvallis Men's Cold Weather Shelter.

"The display of solar panels will be a model to our membership and other faith groups in Corvallis to do the same: to invest in renewables, to reduce our reliance on fossil fuel, and to be more mindful of taking care of our one and only home," said Ken Winograd, of Beit Am
