On November 11, 2017, at approximately 10:23pm, OSP Troopers from the McMinnville Area Command responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 240 near milepost 9 in Yamhill County, Oregon.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2016 Ford Mustang was westbound on Highway 240 near milepost 9 when the male operator failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the roadway, into the ditch and then struck a tree. A male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed for nearly 7 hours for the investigation and subsequent removal of the vehicle. Impairment is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash. The investigation is ongoing. Next of kin has been notified. Names are being withheld to allow for additional family notifications. An updated release will occur within the next 48 hours.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, the McMinnville Police Department, the Newberg Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
