News Release
What to know about the updated COVID-19 shot (and RSV/flu vaccines): INTERVIEWS WITH DR. KATIE SHARFF TOMORROW - 09/13/23

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sept 13, 2023): This past Monday, 9/11, the FDA approved an updated version of the COVID-19 shot and yesterday the CDC provided recommendations on who should receive it.

Meanwhile, there is a new RSV vaccine available for adults age 60 and older to help protect against illness this respiratory season, and the CDC recently recommended the first RSV prevention for infants.

And, flu season is quickly approaching and with it an updated flu vaccine.

Dr. Katie Sharff, Chief of Infectious Disease for Kaiser Permanente Northwest, is available to answer questions about all three fall viruses and vaccines:

  • Who should receive the RSV, flu and COVID vaccines?
  • What is RSV and how serious is it?
  • When will each vaccine be available?
  • Can people get multiple vaccines at the same time?
  • If someone has had a recent COVID infection, should they wait to be vaccinated?
  • Are we in the midst of a COVID surge?
  • Is this flu season expected to be a bad one?

Interviews available:
Dr. Sharff is available for Zoom/phone interviews on Thursday, September 14th from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Contact Debbie Karman to schedule.
