***Update - SW Helmholtz Way is now open for travel***
On February 11, 2024 at approximately 1950 hours, Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a reported single-vehicle rollover crash that sheared a power pole along SW Helmholtz Way near SW Canal Blvd. The crash resulted in multiple power lines hanging low over SW Helmholtz Way.
A Trooper with the Oregon State Police arrived first on scene and made contact with the driver, who was trapped in a Tesla resting on its roof. Redmond Fire units arrived and have begun extrication efforts. An air ambulance has been requested, which is enroute for transport.
Central Electric advised DCSO that the wires across the roadway are considered to be active and dangerous. Drivers are asked to avoid the area, and nearby residents are asked to stay in their homes.
SW Helmholtz Way will remain closed during the investigation and evaluation of the power lines. This release will be updated when the road re-opens.
