Two Pursuits Over the Weekend. Spike Strips Used on Both Vehicles and Both Drivers Taken Into Custody (Photo) - 06/28/21

Driver Pursuit #1: Tasha Delane Winkle, 38 year old female, Redmond, OR

Charges: Attempt to Elude Felony, Reckless Driving, and Parole Warrant

Passenger: Sara Jayne Gittins, 43 year old female, Redmond, OR

Charge: Warrant

Vehicle: 2004 Nissan Xterra

 

On June 25, 2021 at approximately 8:30 PM a deputy observed a Nissan Xterra driving in the area of the Desert Terrace Mobile Home Park on Hwy 97 south of Redmond. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle near mile post 126 on Hwy 97 based on a registration violation and suspicious behavior from the driver and passenger of the vehicle.

The driver failed to stop and ultimately attempted to elude the deputy. The deputy pursued the vehicle for a short distance before discontinuing it due to safety concerns for the public. Deputies observed the vehicle turn onto Gift Road. Deputies drove to the area and set up spike strips in the area of Gift Rd and 93rd Street. The spike strips were successfully deployed and the vehicle ultimately stopped in the area of Journey Avenue and 85th Place.

Both the driver and passenger were detained without incident. The driver was identified as Tasha Winkle, and the passenger was identified as Sara Gittins.

Both subjects were transported to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail where they were lodged on the above mentioned charges.

 

Pursuit #2

Driver: Chad Lawrence Griffin, 31 year old male, Terrebonne, OR

Charges: Attempt to Elude Felony, Reckless Driving, Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Warrant out of Clackamas County, and Parole Warrant

Vehicle: 1998 Ford Mustang

On June 27, 2021 at approximately 10:00 AM a deputy observed a 1998 Ford Mustang in the area of Smith Rock Way and 11th St in Terrebonne. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for failing to obey a traffic control device and expired registration. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and attempted to elude. The deputy pursued the vehicle on Lower Bridge Rd. for a couple of miles, but discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns.

Deputies responded to the area and a deputy was able to set up spike strips on Holmes Rd. near mile post 1. The spike strips were successful and the vehicle stopped a short distance later on Holmes Rd.

Deputies contacted the driver identified as Chad Griffin and took him into custody without incident.

Griffin was lodged in the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail on the above mentioned charges.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police.
