News Release
Fire at Homeless Camp - 04/10/18

Victim:  Bonjorni, Christopher  Age:  34

Location:  1/4 mile east of Highway 97 near milepost 130

NARRATIVE:

On Monday, 040918, at approximately 9:50 PM, a Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy encountered a man walking in the middle of Highway 97 near milepost 130.  The deputy stopped for the man and determined he was having a medical emergency relating to a fire that had occurred at his camp nearby.  Bend Fire Department responded and transported the victim, Christopher Bonjorni to St. Charles Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.  Deputies and fire fighters were able to locate the camp which was a total loss.  The fire had spread to an area approximately 50 feet by 50 feet and had ignited trees and brush.  An initial investigation determined that the cause of the fire was related to a propane cooking stove that ignited and caught a tent and surrounding materials on fire.  No one else was present or affiliated with the camp.  This investigation is ongoing.
