Summary:
On Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at about 5:45 p.m. Officers from the City of Bend Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that occurred earlier in the day at about 5:15 p.m. Officers met with the victim, the registered owner, and the vehicle was recorded as a stolen vehicle.
At about 6:32 p.m. an officer from the City of Bend Police Department located the stolen vehicle in the area of Pinebrook Plaza at 61155 S. Hwy 97. Additional officers drove to the area in an attempt to establish a perimeter around the vehicle. As officers arrived in the area, the stolen vehicle began to drive out of the parking lot. Bend Police officers, with emergency lights activated, attempted to stop the vehicle as it was driving through the parking lot towards Hwy 97. Officers attempted to block the vehicle from leaving the parking lot. The driver of the vehicle, Bryan Beyer, accelerated, drove over the curb, around the police vehicles, through landscaping, and out onto S. Hwy 97, failing to yield to oncoming traffic. The stolen vehicle was struck by a southbound white landscaping pickup pulling a utility trailer, and the stolen vehicle then struck a Silver Audi passenger car.
The stolen vehicle was wedged against the landscaping pickup after the crash. Beyer attempted to drive away from the crash, but was unable to free the vehicle from the landscaping pickup. Officers approached the stolen vehicle and contacted Beyer with guns drawn. Beyer was ordered out of the vehicle. Bend Police canine Kim, with canine handler Corporal James Kinsella was at the crash, however Kim was not deployed to make the arrest of Beyer. Beyer was taken into custody for the listed charges. He was not injured while being taken into custody. He was transported to the Deschutes County Adult Jail and lodged.
The landscaping pickup was driven by an adult male who had a juvenile passenger. The driver of the landscaping pickup and his juvenile passenger received minor injuries from the crash. They were evaluated at the scene by paramedics from Bend Fire but were not transported by ambulance for further medical care.
The female driver of the Audi was not injured. Traffic on S. Hwy 97 was diverted for approximately one hour until the vehicles were able to be removed from the roadway.
