Thefts from COCC Mazama gym locker room - 01/22/20

Arrested: Tyler Sanders, 24-year-old male, Bend transient

Central Oregon Community College Campus Public Safety was made aware of thefts that were occurring at the Mazama gym locker room during the months of October, November and December. Campus Public Safety reported the thefts to Bend Police College Resource Officer, who then investigated the crimes.  Bend Police in partnership with Campus Public Safety were able to determine there are eight reported victims where their property was stolen while they were using the Mazama gym.   All of the reported victims are students or employees of Central Oregon Community College.

During the investigation it was determined Tyler Sanders, who isn’t a student at Central Oregon Community College, had been going into the gym locker room and stealing money, property, and credit card numbers, to later make fraudulent purchases.

On January 17, 2020 Tyler Sanders was located and arrested in downtown Bend, without incident.  He was arrested on the charges of:

Fraudulent use of a credit card

Aggravated Identity Theft

Theft II

More charges are likely to follow.

If you have used the Mazama gym and locker room within the last several months and you have unauthorized charges on your accounts or if you are missing any property after using the facility, please call 541-693-6911 and speak to an officer.

This case is an example of the Bend Police and Central Oregon Community College Campus Public Safety working together in partnership for our community.

As a reminder, Bend Police would like to remind others when using lockers in communal areas, use locks to secure your valuables.  If you determine you have been a victim of theft, you can make a report on line at  https://www.bendoregon.gov/government/departments/police/online-tools/online-police-report or call the non-emergency dispatch line at 541-693-6911.
