Date: Tuesday, March 20, 2018

Case # 2018-078664

Date and Time of Incident: March 18, 2018 at 8:01 pm

Type of Incident: Stabbing

Location of Incident: 2139 NE 3rd Street

Victim:

14 year old female Bend resident

Suspect:

Quentin Navarrette 17 year old Bend resident

Narrative:

On March 18th at 7:59 pm, Deschutes County 911 received a report of a stabbing, where the victim went into 2000 NE 3rd Street #100 (McDonald's) to report the incident. Bend Police Officers were dispatched and responded to the location.

When Officers arrived at the McDonald's, they noticed a male in the drive-thru of the location acting very erratically. The male had a knife in his hands and was immediately contacted by officers. Officers were able to de-escalate the situation initially with the male and convinced him to drop the knife from his hands. As the male was being restrained by the officers, he started to fight the officers and stopped listening to commands. Officers were able to gain control of the male and put him into the WRAP restraining device. Bend Fire and Rescue responded to help officers and transported the male to St. Charles Bend.

The male was identified as Quentin Navarette of Bend. It was learned the actual location of the incident was in front of 2139 NE 3rd Street.

The victim was contacted and found to have a non-life threatening injury, due to being stabbed in the leg. The female was transported to St. Charles Bend by Bend Fire and Rescue.

During the investigation, officers learned that Navarette had used "Molly," which is street slang for the drug MDMA or ecstasy.

Navarette was later transported to the Deschutes County Juvenile Department, where he was lodged on the charges of Assault II, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.

The restraining device used, the WRAP, has been instrumental in preventing injuries to both officers and offenders since we deployed it in 2015. This piece of equipment is used weekly as we are dealing with highly volatile people within our community. To learn more about the WRAP, visit http://saferestraints.com/news-media/.
