Home Fire in SE Bend (Photo) - 11/23/24

A fire occurred in a SE Bend home, near the 61000 block of 27th Street, late afternoon on Friday, November 22, 2024. At the time of the fire, there were no occupants inside the structure and a close by neighbor called the fire in as well as checked for occupants inside the structure.  Fire crews from Bend Fire & Rescue responded and quickly extinguished the fire, limiting it to one room of the structure.  Although the fire was quickly extinguished the structure sustained significant damages, estimated at $75,000.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be combustible materials, in close proximity, to a wood heating appliance.  Closely placed combustibles, in front of the wood heating appliance, ignited and fire spread to other combustibles and the structure itself. No injuries were reported during the fire event.

Bend Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone to always read and follow the manufacturers recommended safety measures that are provided with the products they are using, as well as following local fire and building codes.  Assure proper clearances to combustibles of all heating appliances as well as follow their recommended uses.  As a general rule, provide a minimum clearance of 36” on all sides of a wood heating appliance to combustible materials.
