"Bait Trailer" Stolen After Just Three Days, Man Arrested - 04/17/21

On Saturday, April 17, 2021, just after 4 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a theft in progress at SW 156th Avenue and SW Greensboro Way in Aloha. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit had placed a “bait trailer” at that location just three days prior in response to numerous theft reports. The trailer was equipped with a remote alarm and GPS tracking system in the event it was stolen.

Multiple deputies and a Beaverton Police Department K9 unit arrived quickly and found the suspect pulling the stolen trailer behind his car just a few blocks away.

Deputies arrested 55-year-old Frank L. Jones, of Hillsboro, for unlawful use of a vehicle, criminal mischief in the second degree, and theft in the second degree. Mr. Jones was issued a criminal citation in lieu of being taken to jail.

The detectives assigned to the Property Crimes Unit have taken numerous trailer thefts recently and obtained this “bait trailer” specifically to try to curb these thefts in Washington County. Stolen trailers cost citizens thousands of dollars yearly. The Sheriff’s Office has numerous “bait” items which are deployed throughout the county year-round, including packages, cars, bikes, tools, and trailers.
