UPDATE - Stabbing Suspect Arrested (Photo) - 11/02/19

UPDATE - Deputies just arrested Mr. Platas without incident in Cornelius so he is no longer wanted.  He will be booked into jail on charges related to the stabbing.

Original release:

On Saturday, November 2, 2019, just after 9 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an assault call after a 66-year-old man showed up at an area hospital with injuries from a stabbing and an assault.

Deputies learned the man was attacked in a home in the 400 block of Church St. in Gaston.  Deputies identified the suspect as 30-year-old Aaron Platas who lives in the home.  Although Mr. Platas and the victim are not related, they have known each other for many years.

Deputies went to the home immediately when the call came into dispatch.  They were joined by detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit, as well as the Tactical Negotiations Unit, the Crisis Negotiations Unit, and the Remote Operated Vehicles Team.  When they searched the home, Mr. Platas was not inside and investigators believe Mr. Platas fled before the first deputies arrived.

Detectives need to arrest Mr. Platas for this assault and believe he may still be in the area.  Mr. Platas is described as a Hispanic male, 5’8” tall, and about 300 pounds.  If you see Mr. Platas, please call 911 and do not approach him.
