Impaired Driver Arrested After Hitting Pedestrian, Leaving Crash Scene (Photo) - 01/04/19

On Friday, January 4, 2019, at 4:59 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an injury crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle near SW 185th Avenue and SW Farmington Road in Aloha. Witnesses reported that the involved vehicle, an older model tan Acura, left the scene. One of the witnesses, off-duty Sergeant L. Schoenfeld with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, followed the suspect and called 9-1-1.

As the suspect was attempting to flee the area, he caused a crash with another vehicle near SW 179th Avenue and SW Oak Street, before hitting a fence in a yard near the intersection. Using his personal vehicle, Sergeant Schoenfeld pinned the suspect’s vehicle to prevent him from leaving. Deputies arrived soon after and took the driver, 53-year-old Edgar Ling, into custody without incident.

The pedestrian, a 62-year-old woman, was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries and released. The driver of the vehicle Mr. Ling hit was uninjured. Mr. Ling faces the following charges:

  • Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Felony)
  • Reckless Driving
  • Assault in the Fourth Degree
  • Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (2 counts)
  • Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants

A June 2018 booking photo of Mr. Ling is attached. A current booking photo is not yet available.
