Detectives Investigate Homicide in Metzger Neighborhood

February 10, 2016--Detectives have arrested a person related to a homicide in Metzger late this afternoon.

On February 10, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence in the 7500 block of SW Cedarcrest Street in the community of Metzger, concerning a possible homicide. The suspect was located at the scene.

Sheriff's Deputies arrived and found Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue administering lifesaving efforts to Abdul Jamil Kamawal, 68, from Portland. Mr. Kamawal was on the ground concealed under straw outside of a house under construction. He was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. Initial information indicates that Mr. Kamawal died from homicidal violence.

Sheriff's Deputies quickly apprehended Michael Troxell, 27, from Portland at the scene as the person reportedly responsible for Mr. Kamawal's death. Michael Troxell was not well known or related to Abdul Jamil Kamawal or his family.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team Detectives responded to assist with the investigation. The Oregon State Police Forensic Unit also responded to assist in searching for evidence and process the scene.

The Washington County Medical Examiner was on scene and confirmed the death as homicidal violence but could not confirm the exact cause of death. There was a shovel recovered at the scene but it is not conclusive if it was used in the homicide. An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.

Michael Troxell was lodged in the Washington County Jail charged with Murder. He is held without the possibility of bail.

No additional information is available for release at this early stage of the investigation as detectives search through evidence and conduct interviews.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in this case. If you have any information, please call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-629-0111.
