News Release
Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Underway Outside Sherwood - 01/12/18

January 12, 2018 -- The inter-agency Washington County Major Crimes Team is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting north of Sherwood.

On Friday, January 12, 2018, at 1:34 p.m., dispatch received a report of a suspicious vehicle driving in a field on a property near the intersection of Southwest Roy Rogers Road and Southwest Scholls-Sherwood Road outside of Sherwood.

A Sherwood Police officer initially responded and attempted to contact the driver. The driver fled in the vehicle, while firing multiple times, and retreated deeper into the property.

Members of the inter-agency Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit were called to assist. Portions of Southwest Roy Rogers Road and Southwest Elwert Road were closed out of concern for public safety.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Tactical Negotiations Team contacted the suspect vehicle in the field and, during the encounter, fired upon the suspect. Law enforcement on scene attempted life-saving measures but the suspect was pronounced deceased. An AR-style rifle was recovered from inside the suspect vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Remi Sabbe of Tigard.

Detectives from the inter-agency Major Crimes Team, Washington County District Attorney's Office, Washington County Medical Examiner, and forensics technicians from the Sheriff's Office Forensic Science Unit responded to the scene. King City, Sherwood, Tigard, and Tualatin Police assisted during the incident.

The involved deputies are on administrative leave per agency protocol. Their names will be released at a later date.

No additional information is available for release at this time.
