Tualatin Valley Water District Board Of Commissioner Vacancy (Photo) -07/08/22

A Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) Commissioner serves on a five-member Board responsible for overseeing the governance of the District in compliance with Oregon Revised Statutes and legislative authority to establish policies and procedures that are in the best interests of the customers it serves. 

Requirements for service on the Board:

  • Must be an elector, as defined by the Oregon Constitution
    • U.S. citizen
    • Registered to vote (18 years or older)
    • Resided in the TVWD service area for six months
  • Not employed by the Tualatin Valley Water District

Each Commissioner is accountable for the functions described below, all of which are accomplished at Board and committee meetings through review of information, strategic planning, discussion and decision making.

Expectations:

  • Ensures the District achieves its mission to provide the community quality water and customer service in an ethical, transparent, accountable and prudent manner. 
  • Promote the District’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
  • Review all meeting materials in advance and attend meetings.
  • TVWD’s Board of Commissioners meets twice per month on the first Tuesday at 6:00pm for a Work session and on the third Wednesday at 6:00 pm for the Regular business meeting. 
  • Represent TVWD on Board, regional, and industry committee meetings or functions, such as:  Finance Committee, Budget Committee, Regional Water Providers’ Consortium, Joint Water Commission, and Willamette Water Supply System Commission. These assignments are made by the TVWD Board each year.

Able to work with the other Commissioners as a group to:

  • Establish policy, organizational goals and objectives.
  • Select a Chief Executive Officer; participate in annual CEO performance evaluation process. 
  • Maintain and cultivate positive relationships with other local, state and federal elected officials, community, staff and agency partners.
  • Distinguish between personal views and those of the District to avoid misrepresentation of the District.
  • Protect confidential, proprietary or sensitive information.
  • Practice civility, professionalism and decorum in all discussions and debate.

  • Compensation of $50 per meeting or event per day, excluding Budget Committee meetings and travel to conferences paid by the District. 
  • Paid travel, meals, and at District approved training events, such as: TVWD’s Orientation Program,  American Water Works Association (AWWA);  Pacific Northwest Section of AWWA conference, Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO), and Portland State University’s Local Elected Official Training Academy. 
  • Use of a communication device, including necessary related equipment and hardware, peripherals and software to conduct District business.
