PSESD Releases Web-Based Report To The Community, Highlighting Efforts To Close Opportunity Gaps - 01/04/21

Puget Sound Educational Service District has released its annual Report to the Community, showcasing work for the first time in an interactive, web-based format. The report highlights opportunity gap-closing strategies the agency is implementing in service of its End, Success for Each Child and Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading With Racial Equity. 

“Our collective work this year was never more important, as we faced the twin pandemics of ongoing systemic racism and COVID-19, which has disproportionately impacted Black, Indigenous, and all People of Color,” remarked John P. Welch, PSESD Superintendent. “PSESD has partnered with local, state and federal government, community groups and philanthropy to support pandemic response and recovery. Our work is not over; children and families across the region are depending on all of us to continue leading bravely towards elimination of these inequities.”

Among the critical services and rich stories included in this year’s report are:  racial equity training and mentorship for early learning and K-12 educators; the King County Promise support system for postsecondary access; and the Early Head Start Program at the Washington Corrections Center for Women.

As showcased in the report, PSESD and its partners use Measures of Progress to set the right priorities to advance strategically and help gauge whether, and how, they are working toward outcomes. Outcomes focus on how PSESD works as an agency and with partners to support racially just and equitable school systems, and thereby, impact student outcomes.
