Two people have been detained after one of them pointed a replica firearm at multiple victims in Downtown Portland, and additional victims are being sought by officers.
On Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 5:23 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to a suspicious circumstances call at West Burnside Street at Southwest 6th Avenue. The caller reported that the suspect was pointing a handgun at multiple people.
Officers quickly responded to the area and were updated with information that the suspect was driving away in a black Acura TLX sedan. A sergeant spotted the suspect vehicle and coordinated a high-risk stop and vehicle box-in maneuver on the Burnside Bridge (photo). The suspect and another person in the vehicle were detained for an investigation. A pistol was recovered as evidence, and only then did officers discover it was actually a realistic looking BB gun (photo).
No one was injured. The suspect will be identified after he is charged with crimes. He remains in police custody at this time.
Officers made attempts to locate victims, but were unable to find any. They are asking any victims to come forward and make a police report by calling police non-emergency at 503-823-3333 and reference case number 24-249020. Anyone with information about the case, such as witnesses, can e-mail crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn: Central Precinct. When writing, please reference case number 24-249020.
