The man killed in Tuesday night’s Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood shooting was a driver for a rideshare company.

Detectives have confirmed the driver was working as a rideshare operator when he was shot. The passenger, a 17-year-old male, was his fare. That victim remains in the hospital with critical, life threatening injuries. PPB is not identifying the specific rideshare company at this time.

The name of the driver will be released after his family has had some time to make notifications to loved ones. The medical examiner determined that he died of homicide by gunshot.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called and no arrests have been made. This remains an active investigation, and detectives want to hear from anyone who has information about this case. Please contact Detective J.D. McGuire at jeff.mcguire@police.portlandoregon.gov or Detective Brent Christensen at brent.christensen@police.portlandoregon.gov, 503-823-2087. Please reference case number 24-137851.
