On Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 12:43 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to a crash near the intersection of South Hood Avenue and South Gibbs Street. Officers arrived to find a single vehicle that rolled down the embankment, landing on the offramp from southbound I-5. The driver was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. A passenger in the vehicle did not suffer any injuries.
