UPDATE: Humboldt Neighborhood Homicide Victim Identified (Photo) - 09/12/23

The victim of the August 28 homicide in the Humboldt Neighborhood has been identified as Edilio Thorpe Barrera V, 34. His family has been notified of his death and provided the attached photograph for public release.

The medical examiner has confirmed manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound.

The man suspected of committing this homicide in the Humboldt Neighborhood has been arrested and charged with murder.

Detectives with Portland’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and initially detained 19-year-old Issac W. Henderson and a second individual. The second individual has since been released. Henderson has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Detectives are still at the scene. North Vancouver Avenue remains closed from North Sumner Street to North Webster Street.

On Monday, August 28, 2023 at 1:23 a.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to a shooting call in the 5100 block of North Vancouver Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man who was deceased.

The Portland Police Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective Brian Sims at brian.sims@police.portlandoregon.gov or Detective Meghan Burkeen at meghan.burkeen@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 23-225862.

During the investigation, North Vancouver Avenue will be closed from North Sumner Street to North Webster Street.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
