Assault Suspect Daniel Warren was arrested and booked into jail this morning.
On Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 7:35a.m., two East Precinct officers were on a call assisting Portland Fire & Rescue with traffic control in the 12300 block of Southeast Division Street when they spotted Daniel Thomas Warren walking by. They stopped and arrested him. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree.
Since Warren’s name was released on June 29 and the subsequent media coverage, the Portland Police Bureau has received numerous tips about his whereabouts, however none of them panned out. Still, PPB is grateful to the community members who looked for Warren and called in tips. PPB also thanks the news media for sharing this information in an effort to help locate the suspect.
The arrest of Warren is not the end of the work. Major Crimes Unit Detectives are still actively investigating and still want to hear from anyone with information about the assault on June 15. A suspect is sought in an investigation related to a recent assault case in the Creston-Kenilworth Neighborhood.
On Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 7:04p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to what was originally reported as a pedestrian struck by a car in the 3800 block of Southeast 52nd Avenue. After first responders arrived, they were told it was actually an assault. Portland Fire & Rescue was on scene before officers, and they notified PPB of the assault and that both of the men involved had already left the area. Officers began searching for the victim. A witness told officers the victim was inside one of the nearby food carts. It took officers several minutes to convince the victim to come out of the food cart to talk with them. Once outside, the officers could see that he was injured. They immediately offered to summon EMS, but he declined. The victim told officers he was delivering food and was attacked. When the officer asked for more detail on what happened, the victim declined to say more and locked himself in the cart.
The primary officer continued his investigation, including collecting evidence and seeking out and locating witnesses. He was able to obtain some video evidence. Officers got a general suspect description from a witness and searched the area while the victim was being interviewed. No suspect was located, but the officer documented everything in a detailed police report.
Multiple attempts were made to connect with the victim and obtain a more detailed statement. The Portland Police Major Crimes Unit assigned detectives, and they were able to talk to the victim and his family on Sunday, June 18. A suspect was identified and efforts to locate and arrest him have been made. So far, they have not been successful.
The Portland Police Bureau is asking for the public’s help in locating him. He’s identified as Daniel Thomas Warren, 40. His photographs are attached in an effort to aid in his capture. One is a mugshot from October 2021 and the other is a screen capture from video taken shortly after the assault.
If anyone sees Daniel Warren, please do not approach him. Please call 911. If anyone has non-time sensitive information about his possible whereabouts, or any information about this case, please e-mail crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn: Major Crimes Unit and reference case #23-157872.
