UPDATE #2: Suspect Arrested in May 12 Murder of Kenny Martinez (Photo) - 09/13/23

The suspect in the May 12, 2023 murder of Kenny Martinez has been arrested.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, United States Marshals arrested Gerardo Obregon-Longares, 22, of Milwaukie, Oregon. He was transferred to the custody of PPB Homicide Unit Detectives and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm (two counts), Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm (three counts), and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The victim’s family has been notified of the suspect’s arrest.

This update is to add two additional pictures of Kenny Martinez provided by his family, and to correct his age. Martinez was several weeks away from his 22nd birthday, so was 21-years-old at the time of his death.

The victim in this Portsmouth Neighborhood shooting is identified as 21-year-old Kenny Martinez. The Medical Examiner confirmed his manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Martinez’s family has been notified of his death, and they have provided the attached picture for public release. The family has requested the photograph not be cropped to highlight Martinez as a young, caring father who was active in his child’s life. Family members are requesting privacy at this time.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, at 11:30 p.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to a shooting call in the 7600 block of North Portsmouth Avenue. Officers arrived to find a man who suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The man was transported to an area hospital where he died.

The Portland Police Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective Ryan Foote at ryan.foote@police.portlandoregon.gov or (503)823-0781 or Detective Travis Law at travis.law@police.portlandoregon.gov or (503)823-0395 and reference case number 23-124584.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
