UPDATE: Suspect Charged with Murder For November 2022 Stabbing (Photo) - 12/01/23

After more than a year of meticulous investigation by Portland Police Homicide Detectives, a suspect has been charged related to the 2022 homicide of Nick Henderson in the Lloyd District.

On November 4th, 2022, North Precinct Officers responded to the Lloyd Center parking lot on a welfare check call. Officers arrived and found a man deceased. The victim was later identified as Nick Henderson, 33. An autopsy by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office resulted in a determination that Henderson died of homicide by stab wounds.

Over the past year, Detectives with the PPB Homicide Unit have continued to investigate the case, which led them to a person of interest, Jeffery Joseph McNeill, 26, of Alaska.

After identifying McNeil, Detectives learned he was in the custody of Clackamas County Jail on unrelated charges. Detectives, working with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, were able to obtain an arrest warrant for him. Today, December 1, 2023, McNeill was transferred to Multnomah County and booked on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon related to the homicide. The victim’s family has been notified of the charges.

The case remains under investigation, and no further details are being released at this time.

Portland Police Homicide Detectives work diligently on investigations from the initial response through arrest and prosecution. At times, cases can take months or years to develop. PPB knows the importance of these cases to the families of the victims and to our whole community, and even though it can take time for leads and evidence to develop, they continue to tenaciously pursue investigations.
