UPDATE: Suspect Who Shot at Officer Identified - 07/27/22

The Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy on the deceased suspect. He is identified as Johnathan A. Worth, 19. His family has been notified of his death. The ME determined that Worth died from a gunshot wound.

The officer involved in this shooting is identified as Officer Mina Cavalli-Singer, a nearly 5-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau.

An armed suspect in a domestic violence incident was shot during an officer involved shooting in the Centennial neighborhood.

On 7/24/2022 at approximately 12:06 AM, officers from the East Precinct responded to the area of SE 148th Ave and SE Clinton St on a report of a male and female physically fighting.

While attempting to arrest the male suspect, a shot was fired by the suspect, resulting in an officer returning fire. The suspect was declared deceased at the scene.

Per policy, the Portland Police Homicide Unit is on scene and investigating. If anyone has information about this incident and has not already spoken to police, please contact Detective Gandy at Stephen.Gandy@portlandoregon.gov or Detective Anthony Merrill at anthony.merrill@portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 22-197823.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Investigators are expected to be here for several hours collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Additional information will be released at the direction of investigators.

"I'm glad our officers are okay, and this highlights how dangerous this job can be," said Chief Lovell, who responded to the scene.

The Mayor's office was notified of this incident.

As part of the use of force review process, the Bureau will conduct an internal review of the entire incident, including the initial response, resources requested, tactics used, and post shooting actions. The case will go before the Police Review Board (PRB), which is composed of community members, Bureau members, and representatives from the Independent Police Review Division.
