UPDATE #2: Identity Released of Passenger Killed in Parkrose Neighborhood Crash - 05/08/21

The passenger who was killed in the May 6 crash at Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast Killingsworth Street is identified as David P. Dentler, 25, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash overnight in the Parkrose neighborhood is facing charges, including Manslaughter.

The Major Crash Team investigation determined that the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Anthony L. Soto, 29, of Portland, was speeding on Northeast Killingsworth Street before it crashed into a power pole and sheared the pole off at the base. The passenger, a 25-year-old male, was killed. The passenger will be identified after next of kin is notified.

Speed and alcohol impairment were determined to be contributing factors in the crash. Soto was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering.

PGE responded to repair the power pole.

This is the 25th traffic fatality for 2021 in the City of Portland. On this date in 2020 there had been 13 traffic fatalities. The 14th did not happen until May 14, 2020.

A fatal crash into a power pole has damaged the pole enough that the power lines are creating an unsafe condition.

On Thursday May 6, 2021 at 11:42p.m., an officer on patrol came across the crash near the intersection of Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast Killingsworth Street. It appeared to be a single vehicle crash into a power pole. The officer called for paramedics but one of the two occupants in the vehicle was deceased. The other occupant suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The damage to the pole caused a threat that the power lines could fall. Utility crews are working to repair the damage. All vehicle and pedestrian traffic is blocked on Northeast Sandy Boulevard between Northeast Killingsworth Street and Northeast 102nd Avenue.

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team is enroute to investigate. More information will be released when appropriate. The PIO is not responding to the scene.
