A victim was threatened with a gun during an armed carjacking in the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood, and the vehicle was found wrecked a short time later in North Portland.
On Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 5:07a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a robbery in the 5600 block of Southeast 65th Avenue. When they arrived, they spoke to the adult male victim. He said he was seated in his vehicle warming it up when the robber pointed a gun at his head and ordered him out. The victim complied and the suspect drove off with the car. Officers checked the area for the car and suspect, but they did not locate either. The car was a dark green 1999 Honda Accord 2-door. The victim was not physically injured.
At 5:35 a.m., the stolen Honda was involved in a crash (photo) with a Tri-Met Lift vehicle in the area of North Lombard Street at the Interstate-5 overpass. The driver and only occupant of the Tri-Met vehicle did not have any serious injuries. The driver of the Honda had run off, but they located a loaded handgun in the car (photo). It was seized as evidence. A search for the suspect was not successful.
Detectives are requesting area residents with video surveillance systems in the area of Southeast 65th Avenue and Southeast Harold Street check their recordings at around 05:00a.m. and look for video of the suspect. He's described as a white male, early 20's, 5'6", 145 lbs, with short hair. The suspect was not wearing a hat or glasses. The suspect was wearing a grey sweater with no hood and jeans.
