News Release
Shots fired call leads to arrest - no injuries - 02/17/21

On February 16, 2021 at about 7:48 p.m., Portland Police responded to reports of shots heard in the area of the 5800 Block of North Michigan Avenue. Officers found evidence of gunfire.

Officers developed information that a male suspect confronted a person and fired shots, then forced that person to leave with him in his vehicle. The suspect was later identified as 26-year-old Tyler Wayne Beard.

Officers followed leads that led them to an apartment in the 7300 Block of Northeast Killingsworth Street. As officers developed their tactical and investigative plan, Beard left the apartment and attempted to flee on foot. Officers took Beard into custody shortly after 9:00 p.m.

The Portland Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) took over the investigation. Beard was booked into jail for Kidnap II -- Domestic Violence, Unlawful Use of a Weapon -- Domestic Violence, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
