News Release
Passenger Dies After Running From Crash, Traffic Division Investigating - 10/11/20

A portion of Northeast Sandy Boulevard was closed for several hours over Interstate-205 after a crash where a man ran from the scene and then collapsed, later dying at the hospital.

On Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:18p.m., a call was dispatched to the area of Northeast 97th and Prescott Street to assist medical crews on a man collapsed in the street. Multnomah County deputies were initially dispatched and discovered the man likely came from a crash on Northeast Sandy Boulevard near the I-205 overpass. North Precinct officers responded. They discovered a two car crash, and information suggests that the man who collapsed may have been in one of the cars involved in the crash. The injured man, who appeared to have run several blocks, was transported to a hospital, but died despite lifesaving measures taken by doctors. There were no other injuries.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division Major Crash Team (MCT) responded to investigate. At this time it is unknown if the man died from injuries that resulted from the crash or some other reason.

This is the 4th MCT callout of the weekend. At this time it is unknown if the person died from injuries sustained in the crash or other medical issues. That determination will be made by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office pending their examination.
