News Release
PPB Traffic Officers Conducting Enhanced DUII Patrols Memorial Day Weekend (Photo) - 05/21/20

Portland Police Bureau officers are continuing to focus their attention on impaired driving. Officers have been conducting enhanced DUII patrols throughout the month of May and will continue to do so during the extended Memorial Day weekend. A part of these additional DUII patrols are sponsored with additional grant funds from the Oregon Transportation Safety Division through Oregon Impact.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is one alcohol-related fatality in the United States every 48 minutes. In 2017, there were 10,874 people killed in the United States as a result of alcohol-related crashes.

The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind the public that drug-impaired driving is just as dangerous (and illegal) as alcohol-impaired driving. Officers will be taking a zero tolerance approach to all forms of impaired driving. Drink responsibly and remember buzzed driving is drunk driving.

Support zero tolerance for impaired driving by reporting suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work toward reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.

Be safe and enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and the extended good weather that is forecast for next week.
