UPDATE: GVRT Arrests a Third Person in February Shooting (Photo) - 05/01/20

On Friday, May 1, 2020, the Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) served a warrant in the 4700 block of Northeast Prescott Street and arrested a third shooter in this investigation. Officers recovered key pieces of evidence at the residence including three additional handguns (Photos).

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody and lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on six counts of Attempted Murder, six counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (firearm), Menacing, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm in a Public Place (City Code).

"This is another recent example of the Gun Violence Reduction Team's steadfast commitment to protect this community," said Assistant Chief Andrew Shearer. "Today with the help of SERT and CNT, officers were able to arrest a third person in this shooting, remove multiple firearms off of our streets, and make Portland a safer place."

###ORIGINAL MESSAGE###

On February 3, 2020 members of the Portland Police Bureau's Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) responded to the intersection of Northeast Cully Boulevard and Northeast Killingsworth Street to investigate a shooting. There were no injuries. Several occupied structures were struck by gunfire. GVRT officers described the incident as, "A conflict between two groups that involved multiple shooters."

Through continued investigation the identification of the shooters was determined.

On March 2, 2020, 21 year-old Said Salah (PHOTO) was located and arrested by GVRT. Salah was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Menacing, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and two counts of Attempt Murder.

On March 19, 2020 GVRT's investigation continued to develop and the location of the second shooter was learned. Police Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) affected the safe custody of the suspect and secured the residence for a search warrant. Investigators recovered key pieces of evidence in the investigation including a semiautomatic firearm (PHOTO).

A Male juvenile was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Attempt Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public.

As of March 23, 2020 there have been 113 incidents of Gun Violence within the City of Portland.

The Gun Violence Reduction Team continues to interdict gun violence citywide.

Information learned from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should be shared with investigators as these tips may lead to the identification of a suspect or suspects.
