UPDATE: Shooting Investigation Results in Arrests For Attempted Murder (Photo) - 03/21/20

GVRT's investigation into Friday morning's shooting in the Eliot Neighborhood has resulted in two arrests for Attempted Murder and other charges.

Detectives' investigation determined that Gerald D. Randle, Jr., 36, and Earnest J. Dampier, 35, got into an argument in the hallway of an apartment building. Both produced firearms and shot at each other in close proximity. Dampier was wearing a hat that was shot off. He suffered a wound to his head and another wound to his right leg. He was able to walk to a hospital for treatment. Randle also had a head injury (unknown if caused by gunfire) and was transported by private vehicle to a nearby hospital. Both left the scene before officers arrived. An earlier report that a patient was transported by ambulance was incorrect. Both Randle and Dampier were treated and released to detectives' custody.

Investigators determined that bullets struck common walls between the hallway and some apartments, but no injuries were reported in those units.

Randle and Dampier (photos) were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on separate charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The Gun Violence Reduction Team is continuing to investigate several incidents of gun violence citywide.
