Gun Violence Reduction Team Seizes Guns, Drugs, And Stops DUII (Photo) -03/14/20
Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) officers seized three guns during proactive patrols this week, and one of those arrested also faces charges for impaired driving. On Friday, March 13, 2020 at about 6:15p.m., members of GVRT were proactively patrolling the St. John's neighborhood due to a recent shooting that occurred in January. GVRT officers encountered a motorist stopped on the side of the road at North Oberlin Street and North Macrum Avenue. The officers ran the license plate and learned the motorist, Trevor S. Smallwood, 32, was a suspect in a recent theft of a rifle and a convicted felon. During the contact, officers saw a .22 caliber ammunition casing in the vehicle. Officers searched Smallwood's vehicle and found a .22 Ruger MK III semi auto handgun, loaded magazine, and a box of .22 ammunition (photo "Smallwood gun 2085906"). Officers also found Smallwood in possession of 6.87 grams of methamphetamine. The stolen rifle incident is still being investigated. Smallwood (photo) was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in the City, and Possession of a Controlled Substance -- Methamphetamine. On Thursday, March 12, 2020 at about 7:30 p.m., GVRT officers were proactively patrolling the area of Northeast 121st Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard due to a recent shooting in the neighborhood. GVRT officers saw a vehicle that was driving erratically and traveling at a high rate of speed, estimated to be approximately 70 miles per hour. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Roosevelt L. Baker, 40, tried to elude police but crashed into a nearby building. No one was injured. Baker then tried to elude on foot. After a brief foot pursuit he was taken into custody. In the vehicle Baker had been driving, officers found a loaded Ruger .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol (photo "Baker gun 2085381"). He was also determined to be impaired by alcohol. Baker, (photo), was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants - Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Attempt to Elude on Foot, and a Parole Violation Detainer. On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 1:30 a.m., GVRT officers stopped a vehicle on Southeast 104th Avenue and Southeast Harold Street that was a suspect in a recent shooting and attempting the elude case. The vehicle attempted to elude again, but was located by an assisting Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy near Southeast 77th Avenue and Southeast Harney Street. Officers seized a Smith and Wesson .357 caliber revolver (photo "Gun 2083235"). The occupants of the vehicle were interviewed. GVRT is still investigating the shooting, attempt to elude, and gun possession and charges are expected.
