Three Guns Seized By GVRT Officers Conducting Directed Patrol (Photo) -02/09/20
Two directed patrol traffic stops by the Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) led to three illegally possessed guns seized and five arrests. On Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:50p.m., GVRT members were proactively patrolling the 82nd Avenue corridor, which has seen a high number of gun violence incidents. They conducted a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue, and learned that the driver, Misael M. Mendoza, 24, was armed with a gun. Officers recovered a .357 Magnum revolver from Mendoza's waistband area. The firearm was later discovered to be stolen. The passenger, Darin C. Carter, 21, was also arrested. Another gun, a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, was located near Carter in the vehicle (see photo). On Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 11:07p.m., GVRT officers were conducting directed patrol and stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Southeast 148th Avenue. During the stop, officers located a .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun (photo) in the front waistband of Ossie L. Spencer, 29, who was a passenger of the vehicle. She was arrested and the gun was seized as evidence. The driver and another passenger were arrested as well, one for an outstanding warrant and the other on a parole violation. Spencer (photo) was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in a Public Place (city code), Furnishing False Information to Police, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The Gun Violence Reduction Team is continuing to investigate several incidents of gun violence citywide.
