36 Citations Issued During Tuesday's #VisionZero Traffic Safety Mission on Identified High Crash-Areas (Photo) - 06/07/19

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, members of the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division conducted a Vision Zero traffic safety mission in various locations throughout the city. Officers focused on high crash areas such as Martin Luther King Boulevard, Stark Street, Powell Boulevard, Division Street, Lombard Street, and Highway 30.

Officers focused on dangerous behaviors and the officers were free to make traffic stops on drivers, pedestrians and bicycle riders as they saw appropriate. The officers were encouraged to share information about the Vision Zero program during these contacts. As always, officers were allowed the discretion to issue citations, warnings or classes.

During this traffic safety mission, 36 citations and 2 warnings were issued. Officers also offered traffic safety classes to 11 motorists after they were stopped for traffic violations.

The Traffic Division will be conducting future enforcement missions as staffing allows.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
