UPDATE #2: SERT/CNT Activation -- Suspect in Custody -- Firearm Recovered (Photo) - 06/06/19

Tommy Lee Brown Jr. has been booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Theft in the First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and a detainer. Brown is on supervised pre-trial release for a previous robbery and must wear a GPS tracking device.



UPDATE: SERT/CNT Activation -- Suspect in Custody -- Firearm Recovered

The suspect in this incident has been taken into custody by members of the Portland Police Bureau Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT).

This investigation began on Thursday June 6, 2019, at 12:56 p.m., when East Precinct officers responded to Kohl's located at 10010 Northeast Halsey Street on a report of a robbery in progress where the suspect brandished a firearm at loss prevention employees before leaving the store.

Officers arrived and confronted the suspect outside near Fred Meyer located at 1111 Northeast 102nd Avenue. The suspect did not comply and ran into Fred Meyer. Officers evacuated the store and set up containment in the area. SERT and CNT were activated and responded to the location to assist.

The suspect was taken into custody and a loaded firearm was recovered. He has been identified as 34-year-old Tommy Lee Brown Jr. Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau's Robbery Detail are responding to assist with the investigation.

The Portland Police Bureau understands the impact that an event like this has on the community. We are aware that several businesses went into lock-down, while others closed early. We would like to thank the community for their patience and their cooperation as officers worked to apprehend the suspect.



#ALERT: SERT/CNT Activation

The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) are responding to the Gateway Fred Meyer located at 1111 Northeast 102nd Avenue to assist East Precinct officers with an armed subject inside the store.

No additional details are available at this time. An updated news release will be sent as investigators learn more.

The PIO will be responding to the scene and interested media should stage in the parking lot of Applebee's.
