UPDATE #3: Homicide Victim Identified (Photo) - 04/11/19

The victim from the homicide at Southwest Broadway and Southwest Alder Street on April 8, 2019 has been identified as Paul S. Mears, a 49 year-old male. The family has been notified. The family respectfully requests for privacy while they grieve their loss and asks for media to refrain from contacting them. The family did provide photographs for public use. (PHOTOS)

Detectives are still investigating this morning's homicide. We will not be sending out any more information until at least tomorrow's autopsy is complete and family members have been notified.

###UPDATE #1 MESSAGE BELOW###
The suspect in this morning's investigation has been identified as 38-year-old Daniel Paul Connor. He was lodged into the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count of murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

All streets and sidewalks are now open.

###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###
On Monday, April 8, 2019, at 12:31 A.M., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of an assault in the area of Southwest Broadway and Southwest Alder Street in Downtown. Officers and medical crews arrived and discovered a man unconscious and bleeding heavily on the sidewalk. He was pronounced deceased.

Officers have detained one person several blocks away.

Homicide Detectives are enroute to the scene to assume the investigation.

Officers have closed Southwest Broadway between Southwest Washington Street and Southwest Morrison Street, and Southwest Alder between Southwest Park Avenue and 6th Avenue to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic. It will likely remain closed for several hours.

There is no information that suggests there is a danger to the public related to this incident. The PIO is not responding to the scene at this time.
