UPDATE: PPB's Major Crash Team Investigating Single Vehicle Crash-Passenger Deceased-Driver charged (Photo) - 03/10/19

The driver of the stolen vehicle is identified as 26-year-old Adam Alexander Valle (photo). He has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, and Reckless Driving. The passenger killed will not be publically identified until after family is notified.

This is the 7th fatal crash within the City of Portland in 2019.

During the course of processing the scene investigators had another impaired driver drive past the crime scene tape and nearly into the physical crime scene while Traffic Personnel were processing the evidence. This person was arrested for DUII as a result.

Drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs injure and kill thousands of people every year. People consuming alcohol or drugs are urged not to get behind the wheel and should have a sober driver or utilize taxis, rideshare companies or transit so everyone is safe on our streets.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.

### PPB ###

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 11:01 p.m., an East Precinct Officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Southeast Division Street and 124th Avenue. The vehicle did not stop and fled to the North, then West. The officer did not pursue the vehicle. Shortly after losing sight of the vehicle, it was found crashed into a pole in the intersection of Southeast Division Street and 122nd Avenue.

As officers arrived, they saw a passenger in the vehicle and quickly determined the passenger was deceased.

The driver, an adult male, fled the crash scene and was located within a block and was arrested. The driver was injured and was taken to an area hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The involved vehicle is a Subaru Legacy that was reported stolen.

The Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team responded and is assuming the investigation.

Traffic is closed on Southeast Division Street from 121st to 124th Avenues and on 122nd Avenue one block North and South of Southeast Division Street. Additionally, there is an associated power outage likely due to the power pole that was struck. It is likely the streets will remain closed for 4-6 hours while investigators process this major scene. It is also possible the power outage will continue for several hours as well.

Anyone with information about this crash should contact the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division at 503-823-2103 or call non-emergency dispatch at 503-823-3333.
