On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, detectives with the Portland Police Bureau's Detective Coordination Team were following up on two burglaries where over $30,000 worth of property was taken. During the investigation, the detectives determined two suspects had sold stolen property related to one of the burglaries. These two suspects were arrested and charged with crimes related to the burglaries and stolen property.

The two suspects were identified as 31-year-old Seth T. Thayres and 35--year-old James Cardenas. Thayres was charged with two counts of Theft 1 and Possession of Methamphetamine. Cardenas was charged with Theft 1, two counts of Aggravated Theft 1, four counts of Burglary 2, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Both subjects were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. (Photos attached)

Thayres was identified as an off-duty Salem Police Department officer, who was already on administrative leave for a different matter, according to the agency. Any inquiries related to his employment should be directed to the Salem Police Department.
