Traffic #Alert: PPB Major Crash Team Investigation Underway 16700 Block of Southeast Powell Boulevard - One Person Seriously Injured - 01/09/19

On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at 6:57 p.m., an East Precinct officer witnessed a sedan crash into a pedestrian who was crossing the road in the 16700 Block of Southeast Powell Boulevard. The officer immediately requested for medical to respond for the injured pedestrian. The pedestrian, an adult male, was provided emergency medical care and was transported to an area hospital with what were believed to be serious life-threatening injuries.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to lead this investigation because of the severity of the perceived injuries suffered by the man during the crash. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division also responded to assist with this Major Crash Team investigation. As the investigation progressed, the pedestrian's condition was reported to be serious, but not life-threatening by medical personnel.

The driver of the vehicle has remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. At this time in the investigation there have been no arrests or citations.

During this traffic crash investigation, Southeast Powell Boulevard will be closed between Southeast 162nd Avenue and Southeast 170th Avenue. Traffic will likely be impacted for the next four to six hours in this area of Southeast Powell Boulevard. Oregon Department of Transportation responders are assisting with the road closures.
