Drunk Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Police Motorcycle Officer - No Serious Injuries (Photo) - 11/02/18

On Friday November 2, 2018, at approximately 1:15 a.m., a Traffic Division Motorcycle Officer was performing a traffic stop on a speeding driver on eastbound I-84 near the Northeast Halsey Street overpass. As the speeding driver slowed down and pulled to the right (with the motor officer behind), a second speeding driver in a 2011 Volkswagen Golf struck the motor officer from behind, knocking the officer to the ground and crashing the motorcycle.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for a precautionary examination by medical personnel.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and did not require any medical treatment. Investigating officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash.

The driver involved in the crash, 29-year-old Bradley Miguel Pitts, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Assault in the Fourth Degree. He will be arraigned later today.

Drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs injure and kill thousands of people every year. People consuming alcohol or drugs are urged not to get behind the wheel and should have a sober driver or utilize taxis, ride-share companies or transit so everyone is safe on our streets.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
