63 Citations Issued During Tuesday #VisionZero Traffic Safety Mission on Identified High Crash-Areas (Photo) - 10/18/18

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, members of the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division conducted Vision Zero traffic safety missions along Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, Southeast Grand Avenue, Northeast 122nd Avenue, North Marine Drive, and Burnside Street

Officers focused on dangerous behaviors and the officers were free to make traffic stops on drivers, pedestrians and bicycle riders as they saw appropriate. The officers were encouraged to share information about the Vision Zero program during these contacts. As always, officers were allowed the discretion to issue citations, warnings or classes.

During this traffic safety mission, 63 citations and one warning was issued. Officers also offered traffic safety classes to eight motorists after they were stopped for traffic violations. A photo-radar van was utilized during this Vision Zero traffic safety mission and issued 49 of the citations. One motorist was cited for traveling 61 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone on Northeast 122nd Avenue. Another motorist was cited after an officer observed the driver traveling 84 miles per hours in the 5300 block of North Marine Drive. This area of North Marine Drive has a designated speed limit of 40 miles per hour.

The Traffic Division will be conducting future enforcement missions as staffing allows.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
