11 Citations Issued During Tuesday #VisionZero Traffic Safety Mission on Burnside St (Photo) - 10/09/18

On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 9:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., members of the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division conducted a Vision Zero traffic safety mission along Burnside Street from Interstate 405 to Southeast 12th Avenue.

Officers focused on dangerous behaviors and the officers were free to make traffic stops on drivers, pedestrians and bicycle riders as they saw appropriate. The officers were encouraged to share information about the Vision Zero program during these contacts. As always, officers were allowed the discretion to issue citations, warnings or classes. This area of Burnside Street includes bus stops, crosswalks and is heavily utilized by pedestrians and motorists.

During this traffic safety mission, 11 citations and three warnings were issued. Officers also offered traffic safety classes to eight motorists after they were stopped for a traffic violations.

The Traffic Division will be conducting future enforcement missions as staffing allows.

The Portland Police Bureau is committed to working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
