Stabbing Investigation Underway in Northwest Portland -- One Person Injured, One Person in Custody - 09/17/18

On Monday, September 17, 2018, at 7:05 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the area near Northwest 14th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street on the report that a person was stabbed.

Officers arrived in the area and located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. Emergency medical personnel arrived and provided the victim emergency medical aid and transported him by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment of what is a believed to be a serious but non-life threatening injury.

Investigating officers learned of the suspect's description and broadcast the information to responding officers. Responding officers searched the area and located a man that matched the suspect's description near Northwest 16th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. During a canvas of the area where the suspect was taken into custody, the knife believed to have been used by the suspect in this stabbing was located and seized as evidence.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Assault Detail are responding to assume this investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division have also responded to assist with the investigation.

During the investigation the ramps from northbound and southbound Interstate 405 to Northwest Glisan Street will be closed and Northwest Glisan Street will be closed between Northwest 14th Avenue and Northwest 17th Avenue.

There was not believed to be a danger to the community in relation to this stabbing.

This investigation is in its early stages and there is no additional information to share at this time. The suspect will not be identified until after which time he is lodged at the Multnomah County Jail.
