Three People Arrested During Protest in South Waterfront Thursday Night (Photo) - 09/13/18

On Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 5:41 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Elizabeth Caruthers Park, located at 3508 Southwest Moody Avenue, regarding a protest.

Officers observed the protesters blocking roadways and traffic in the South Waterfront, as well as access to Oregon Health and Science University's (OHSU) Center for Health and Healing and the Collaborative Life Sciences Building. Both the Center for Health and Healing and the Collaborative Life Sciences Building were placed in lockout as protesters blocked entry and egress to the buildings Thursday evening.

As protesters marched on the roadways in the South Waterfront, officers provided directions over loud speakers instructing the marchers to move off the roadway and onto nearby sidewalks.

During the protest, officers located a man participating in the march that was believed to be a suspect in a June 3, 2018 assault investigation. The man was contacted and taken into custody. Officers continued to instruct marchers to proceed to the sidewalk and off the roadway.

Preliminary information suggests, that during the march a water bottle was thrown by a protester and struck an officer, officers deployed pepper spray and arrested two additional protesters.

The three people taken into custody during the protest were lodged at the Multnomah County Jail. The identifies and charges of those arrested were:

31-year-old Jacob A. Bureros was charged with Harassment;

43-year-old Sherry Motamedi was charged with Resisting Arrest, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree; and

21-year-old Zoe R. McLain was charged with Resisting Arrest, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree

Bureros, Motamedi and McLain will be arraigned in Multnomah County Court on Friday, September 14, 2018.

There were no reports of injury during the protest.

The investigation into today's events continues. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Portland Police Bureau non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
