On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the East Metro County Special Weapons and Tactics Team and the Clackamas County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team assisted the Portland Police Bureau Tactical Operation Division's Gang Enforcement Team (GET) in the service of concurrent search warrants at a residence in Gresham and a residence in Clackamas County.

While serving a warrant, members of the East Metro County SWAT Team arrested 44-year-old Ervan Ronell Herring. Members of the Clackamas County SWAT Team arrested 43-year-old Michael Devon Herring during the service of a warrant in Clackamas County. Investigators with the Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team located and seized three firearms during a search of both residences. The seized firearms included a .380 caliber handgun, .40 caliber handgun and a .223 caliber assault style rifle (Photographs of the firearms have been provided with this release). The rifle was a reported stolen firearm from Springfield, Oregon.

This investigation began on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at 4:47 p.m., when North Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire in a parking lot near Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, located at 2801 North Gantenbein Avenue.

Based on information learned at the time of the shooting, investigators with the Portland Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team responded to the crime scene and assumed the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives learned Ervan and Michael Herring were suspects in the shooting. Detectives applied for and obtained search warrants for the locations in Gresham and Clackamas County. Both locations are the known residences of Ervan and Michael Herring.

Ervan and Michael Herring were lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Attempt Murder, Attempt Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Anyone with information about Ervan or Michael Herring should contact Gang Enforcement Team Detective Brent Christenson at 503-823-2087 or Brent.Christenson@portlandoregon.gov
