Shooting Investigation Underway in Portland's King Neighborhood - Two People Injured - 05/19/18

On Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 8:41p.m., North Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team officers responded to the report of a person that was shot while near the intersection of Northeast Grand Avenue and Northeast Alberta Street.

Officers arrived in the area and located an adult female victim who sufferred what was believed to be a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Prior to police and emergency medical responders arriving, community members began to render the victim emergency first aid. Emergency medical responders arrived on scene and continued to provide medical aid and transported the woman to an area hospital by ambulance.

As officers and emergency medical personnel assisted the female victim, another caller to 9-1-1 reported seeing an adult male hiding near his residence in the 4900 block of Northeast 6th Avenue. Officers responded to the caller's home and located an adult male who had also been struck by gunfire. Officers requested additional emergency medical personnel to respond to assist the male victim. Emergency medical responders arrived on scene, provided the man medical aid and transported him to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of what are believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers searched the area for possible suspects, additional victims and evidence of the shooting, they located and seized evidence of gunfire on Northeast Alberta Street near Northeast Grand Avenue. Officers also located an unoccupied residence in the 500 block of Northeast Alberta Street that was struck by gunfire.

At this time in the investigation no suspects have been located. Based on information learned in the investigation at this time investigators believe the male victim was the intended target of this shooting. Officers do not believe the female victim or residence that was struck by gunfire were intended targets of the shooting.

During this investigation, Northeast Alberta Street will be closed between Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Northeast 7th Avenue.

Based on the preliminary information, the Gang Enforcement Team will be conducting the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division have also responded to assist with this investigation.
