UPDATE #2: Bicyclist Involved in May 15th Fatal Traffic Crash - Identified - 05/17/18

The bicyclist that died as a result of a traffic crash that occurred on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in the 2700 block of Northwest Nicolai Street has been identified as 50-year-old Daniel Feldt, of Portland.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team continues to investigate this crash. Anyone with information about this crash should contact Officer Garrett Dow at 503-823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov

Members of the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division continue to investigate a crash that occurred on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 on Northwest Nicolai Street.

The bicyclist involved in the crash did not survive his injuries after arrival at a Portland hospital. The bicyclist has been identified as a 50-year-old male. His name is not being released pending family notification.

This was the 17th traffic fatality in the City of Portland in 2018.

On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 8:04 a.m., Central Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the report of a bicycle and vehicle crash in the 2700 block of Northwest Nicolai Street.

Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and located an injured adult male and a bicycle on the ground at the crash scene. The male bicyclist suffered what were believed to be serious life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Medical personnel provided medical aid and transported the man to an area hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle involved in this crash has remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Based on preliminary information, investigators believe the bicyclist exited a parking lot, traveled into the eastbound travel lane of Northwest Nicolas Street and crashed into a passing truck.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team has responded and will continue the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division have also responded to assist with this investigation.

During this crash investigation Northwest Nicolai Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 29th Avenue.

This investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as the investigation continues and is determined to be appropriate.
