###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

On Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:11 a.m., North Precinct officers arrested 25-year-old Justin D. Ames near the intersection of North Larrabee Avenue and North Broadway in connection to a Wednesday evening assault.

This investigation began on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 5:10 p.m., when North Precinct officers responded to the report of an assault in the 800 block of Northeast Broadway. When officers and emergency medical person arrived, they located an elderly female who sustained a head injury as a result of the assault. The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned the suspect approached the victim and shoved her into a parked vehicle. Based on information provided by surveillance footage and witnesses, the assault was described as unprovoked. Officers later learned the victim did not know the suspect.

Officers performed a search of the neighborhood after the assault, but did not locate the suspect. Information was provided to officers during subsequent shifts. Officers patrolling in the area of North Larrabee Avenue and North Broadway observed Ames late Thursday morning. Officers contacted and took Ames into custody without incident.

Ames was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree.

Anyone with information about Ames should contact Detective Travis Fields at 503-823-4104 or Travis.Fields@portlandoregon.gov
