The pedestrian was identified as 65-year-old Wes W. Hatton of Portland. Hatton died on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at an area hospital.

Based on information learned in this investigation, officers believe Hatton crossed Southeast Belmont Street on the east side of Southeast 30th Avenue in a marked crosswalk. As Hatton crossed the road he was struck by a Toyota Echo driven by an adult male. The Toyota Echo was turning from southbound Southeast 30th Avenue to eastbound Southeast Belmont Street.

The driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation.

This is the sixth traffic related fatality investigated by the Major Crash Team in Portland in 2018.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team continues to investigate this crash. Anyone with information about this crash should contact Officer Garrett Dow at 503-823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov

The investigation will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review and consideration upon completion.

On Friday March 9, 2018, at 7:54 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southeast 30th Avenue and Belmont Street on the report that a pedestrian was injured after being struck by a driver in a vehicle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the adult male pedestrian suffering from traumatic injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.
